Massage Therapy

Massage Therapy is a rapidly growing addition to health and fitness routines, and an effective complement to other health care services. Many people seek therapeutic massage as a natural means to promote healthy body functioning, and to enhance the body's own restorative powers.

The most common reasons for getting a massage are:
  • General Relaxation
  • Revitalization
  • Relieve Sore or Tight Muscles
  • Relieve Tension Headaches
  • Recover from Sports Activities
  • General Health and Fitness
  • Improve Circulation
  • Complement Other Health Care

Most important is that therapeutic massage is an age-old remedy which has proven to be an effective complement to Chiropractic care. Problems in the muscular-skeletal system can impede the natural healing process, and often cause dysfunction and pain. Most chiropractors would agree that it is important to treat soft tissue such as muscles and tendons to help prevent and correct subluxation, and lessen the accompanying pain.

Together, chiropractic and massage provide you with a more complete and effective system of health care.

Molly Schutt, LMP

I was born and raised in Seattle where I now live with my husband and two children: a very active four year old boy and a nine month old girl. I also lived in Hawaii for over five years. It was during this time that I became increasingly convinced of the body’s innate ability to heal. I made friends with people from all walks of life who came to the Islands to “Heal”: some emotionally; some physically. My years in Hawaii proved to be a journey of self discovery for me. I attended traditional “sweats”, and joined meditation groups to network with like-minded people. The entire journey was centered around my personal evolution toward total health in body, mind and spirit and very much shaped who I am as a therapist today. I will never forget the advice my very wise teacher taught me, that “the body is more sacred than any recipe”.

Let me give you a little back ground about the body work that I now practice at Penaluna Chiropractic Studio, PS called SOMA. When I was 10 years old, I climbed up a tree to check on an abandoned birds nest I had been keeping an eye on. I knew there were babies in there, and I wanted to raise them. I grabbed the last two branches above the nest to pull myself up in order to peek into the empty nest. I’m sure you can imagine what happened next. At that very moment both branches I was hanging on broke and I went crashing down to the ground below. I felt fine immediately after the fall, but when I stood up to brush myself off I realized that there was a branch sticking out of my lower leg. It had completely impaled my right calf. After healing from the wound, I spent the rest of that school year and half the summer learning how to walk again. My body, in its wisdom, did what bodies do and compensated, from head to toe, to protect that leg. It seemed like from that point forward I have always struggled with balance. My coordination was also affected and as a result I have injured myself several times. It was not until I discovered Soma Neuromuscular Integration that I learned how the chronic ’accidents’ of my adult life were directly connected to that injury in my childhood. The body, I learned, has an amazing intelligence. Muscles and fascia actually adapt to their environment to provide the best possible support for the body as it moved under the stress of gravity.

After my first experience with Structural Integration three years ago, I knew it was something I needed to be a part of. I was so driven to learn this type of body work that I actually switched from a massage school that I was already attending to the Soma Institute of Neuromuscular Integration.

Although structural integration work is my passion, I am also skilled in other massage techniques including Swedish massage and Deep Tissue work. I am also about to complete certification in Reiki and Hot Stone techniques. So, please let me know how I can serve you best when I see you and if you are interested in SOMA work, I would be happen to explain it to you and perhaps give you a sample to experience for yourself. I will look forward to the opportunity to get my hands on you! Give me a call today.

Dr. Penaluna Asks some important questions of interest to Seattle residents - Chiropractor Seattle Dr. Penaluna Asks...

Can chiropractic cure a child's ear infections?
Chiropractic isn't a cure for anything. Nor is it a treatment for ear infections. However, many children who suffer with ear infections also suffer from spinal problems in their neck, compromising nerves to the ear, depressing the immune system and preventing proper drainage. Can chiropractic help? Find out!
How do you know when you're healthy?
Ask most Seattle residents this simple question and you're likely to hear, "When you feel good" or "When you're at your proper weight for your height" or "When you have lots of energy and vitality." Great answers. But our chiropractic practice members know that true health is when your body is working as it was designed. True health is how you function, not how you feel.
